NICJN (Neurodivergence in the Criminal Justice Network) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with care and respect. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it.

 

1. Who We Are

NICJN is a UK-based platform that shares factual resources to improve the criminal justice system for neurodivergent people. The website is hosted on Wix.com. NICJN (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website www.nicjn.org. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information openly and transparently.

When you sign up to become a member or submit a form on this website, we may collect and process the following information when you use our website:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Email address

  • Any details you provide if you upload a resource to the website.

  • Information automatically collected by cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookies Policy).
     

We do not collect sensitive personal data or financial information. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 years old.

 

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide:

  • To understand who is engaging with the NICJN network

  • To send newsletters and updates, if you have joined the network via the external JISC Mailing List

  • Running and maintaining the NICJN website.

  • Allowing you to upload and share resources.

  • Responding to your queries and feedback.

  • To monitor engagement, improving our website and understanding how people use it.

We do not share your personal information with third parties.

 

4. Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we must tell you the legal basis for processing your personal data. We rely on:

  • Consent – for our newsletter/updates when you join the network via the external JISC Mailing List; when you choose to submit a resource.

  • Legitimate interests – for improving our site and understanding how it is used, provided your rights are not overridden.

  • Legal obligation – if we are required to share information by law.
     

5. How long we keep your information

We will keep your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes described above, or as required by law.

  • Data kept for the purposes of membership, receipt of our newsletter or updates, is kept until you unsubscribe (by ‘signing off’ of the JISC Mailing List; or informing us you wish to unsubscribe).

  • Resource submissions are kept while they remain published on the site.

  • Technical data (such as logs) may be kept for security purposes for up to 12 months.
     

​We only keep data as long as is necessary for the purposes above or as required by law.

6. Sharing your information 

We do not sell your personal information. However, we use trusted service providers (data processors) who help us run our website and services. These include:

  • Wix – our website platform and hosting provider.

  • Usercentrics – for managing cookie consent.

  • Google reCAPTCHA – for protecting forms from spam.

  • Email provider – for managing email communications.

These providers only process your data on our instructions and under contract.
 

7. International transfers 

Some of our service providers (such as Wix, Usercentrics and Google reCAPTCHA) may store or process data outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA). These providers are responsible for ensuring that appropriate safeguards are in place — for example, using adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses approved under UK GDPR.

By using trusted providers who publish their own compliance measures, we ensure that your personal data remains protected wherever it is processed.
